Andreas Shiff playes the best Bach.

András Schiff is one of the greatest gift to humanity.

the only other performer besides Gould whose version of this I would recommend. Schiff was always the one who abided by the score faithfully, but I feel like here he lets himself breathe. Nobody will ever outshine Gould on this work but Schiff performs a very humble and earnest reading here. Would hazard to say that this is one of his finest performances ever IMO because he let himself and the music speak, as there was no strict scoring.

Un jeu impeccable, précis, tendu. Schiff est aussi bon dans Bach que dans Mozart. L'orchestre est tout aussi excellent. Une magistrale interprétation de ce chef d'œuvre.

I mean this in the nicest way. This performance, and the Tempest, is some very fine banging.
